Attorney General Ken Paxton Secures Repayment for Texans Who Were Scammed by Rubinsky Roofing Company

Attorney General Ken Paxton secured a legal victory that will repay Texans who were scammed by the North Texas roofing company, Rubinsky Roofing LLC (“Rubinsky Roofing”).

In May, Attorney General Paxton sued Rubinsky Roofing and its owner, Gilad Rubinsky, after reports indicated that the company was violating Texas law and scamming customers.

Now, Attorney General Paxton has obtained a judgement that holds the company liable for 27 violations of the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act (“DTPA”). Five of those violations involved scamming individuals who were 65 or older. Violations include defrauding individuals out of insurance funds or personal funds to pay for unnecessary or sham repairs. In some cases, the customer paid for roofing work that was never begun or completed.

As part of the judgement obtained by Attorney General Paxton, the company will pay more than $1.5 million in civil penalties. At least an additional $500,000 will be allocated to consumers who were victims of Rubinsky’s scheme. Additionally, the judgment permanently bars Rubinsky Roofing and Gilad Rubinsky from continuing the deceptive practices at issue in the lawsuit.

“This legal victory will help repay victims of Rubinsky Roofing’s lies and predatory sales tactics,” said Attorney General Paxton. “What this company did to consumers and elderly Texans is an absolute disgrace. I am glad to help Texans get repaid and ensure that Rubinsky Roofing’s scam ends now.”

Rubinsky Roofing and Gilad Rubinsky will provide the names and contact information of affected consumers. The Consumer Protection Division of the Office of the Attorney General will contact victims within 15 days of receiving that information with instructions on how to claim restitution.
