Texas Water Development Board approves $379,000 to the Ellis Prairie Soil and Water Conservation District (Ellis County) for a dam inundation study

AUSTIN – (August 6, 2026) – The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved $379,000 in grant funding to the Ellis Prairie Soil and Water Conservation District (Ellis County), through its Flood Infrastructure Fund (FIF) program. The FIF program’s purpose is to assist in financing drainage, flood mitigation, and flood control projects.

With the assistance approved today, the District will study the development of hydrologic and hydraulic models to define dam inundation areas and emergency action plans for 40 high and significant hazard dams located in Ellis County.

The grant supports the implementation of flood management evaluations as outlined in the regional and state flood plans. Visit the TWDB Flood Infrastructure Fund webpage to learn more about this program.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional water and flood planning, and preparing the state water and flood plans. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood mitigation, and agricultural water conservation projects.
